The Union of Monegasque Women, known locally as the UFM and founded in 1958, held its annual autumn luncheon on October 24, drawing around 80 guests including Minister of State Christophe Mirmand and representatives from across Monaco's political institutions and charitable community. The gathering has become a fixture on the association's calendar, built around friendship and solidarity among its members as much as any single cause.

This year's lunch fell during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the president of Ecoute Cancer Reconfort used the occasion to push the conversation beyond symbolic gestures like pink ribbons, urging attendees toward preventive screening as the more concrete response the month calls for. Discussion at the luncheon also touched on women's rights in the principality and the social isolation that can affect women in particular, themes the UFM has built much of its programming around since its founding.

Looking ahead, the association has a self defence event and a series of workshops on artificial intelligence planned for its members, pairing a practical skills focus with newer subjects that reflect how the UFM's programming has broadened over the decades beyond its original remit. Both initiatives extend the same mix of welfare and education the group has offered members since 1958.

The autumn luncheon also doubled as an early marker on the way to a bigger milestone: the Union of Monegasque Women will mark its 70th anniversary in 2028, closing in on seven decades of work supporting women and defending their rights in the principality. For an association built on long standing relationships among its members, the gathering offered a chance to look back on that history while setting out what the group still has planned before the anniversary arrives.
