Monaco's Princely Government confirmed this week that a film production will take over parts of Monaco-Ville, the principality's historic old town also known as Le Rocher, on October 16, 17, 22 and 23. The government's statement did not name the production, but it is widely understood locally to be the long rumoured Ocean's Eleven prequel, directed by and starring Bradley Cooper alongside Margot Robbie.

Cooper and Robbie are playing the parents of Danny Ocean, the character George Clooney made famous in the original films, in scenes set in the 1960s decades before his own exploits. Production has been working around Monaco since the summer, having already filmed scenes in nearby Villefranche sur Mer and Nice, with period cars and hundreds of extras turning the Circuit de Monaco into the setting for a heist built around a vintage Grand Prix.

The shoot has already moved through several corners of the principality, with cameras set up at Port Hercule and Plage des Pecheurs before crews filmed at Place du Casino in Monte Carlo on October 13, with Margot Robbie on set. Le Rocher's narrow medieval streets will present a different challenge for a production of this scale, leaving the crew far less room to manoeuvre than the wider boulevards used so far.

The government has warned that pedestrian access through Monaco-Ville's narrow lanes and along the Rampe Major may be adjusted while filming is under way, and that night time noise is possible on shoot days. Officials said measures would be taken to limit the disruption to residents, with crews working to keep traffic moving and preserve everyday life in the old town as much as the production allows.
