Prince Albert II and the Princess of Hanover inaugurated Memoire des Lieux on September 29 at the Quai Antoine Ier exhibition hall, opening a show organised by Monaco's Department of Cultural Affairs that runs through January 24, 2027. Curated by Celia Bernasconi, director of the Institut du Patrimoine, the exhibition is free to visit and open Tuesday to Sunday from midday to 6pm.

The inauguration drew Secretary of State Yvette Lambin-Berti, Minister of the Interior Lionel Beffre and Director of Cultural Affairs Francoise Gamerdinger alongside the royal family, reflecting the weight the principality has put behind a show built around how Monaco's own built environment has shifted over time. The exhibition sets out to trace that change through the idea of memory itself, looking at how the city's architecture and public spaces have been remade even as their older layers remain visible underneath.

The show brings together photography, contemporary art, audiovisual installations and large scale works from a group of artists spanning generations, among them Albert Diato, Luis Molne, Roger Capron, Victor Vasarely, Denis Morog, Keith Haring, Gabriele Basilico, Lidwine Prolonge, Mathilde Janson and Jurgen Nefzger. Guest artist Gabriel-Noe Rosticher produced a new film specifically for the exhibition, giving the show a piece made in direct response to its theme rather than drawn entirely from existing archives.

The exhibition's design was handled by Louise Chatelain and Theophile Sargenti, students at the Pavillon Bosio, Monaco's own art and design school, giving the next generation of local designers a direct hand in how the principality's own history is presented to the public. Running for nearly four months, the show gives residents and visitors an extended window to see Monaco's transformation laid out through the eyes of artists working across more than half a century of change.
