The man who fell onto the tracks at Monaco-Monte-Carlo station on Tuesday, August 25 has died, Monaco's Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Wednesday. The fall happened at around 4pm near platform C, on the line toward Nice, close to the footbridge, before the man was struck by a train arriving from Menton.

Monaco's firefighters and a SMUR medical team, made up of a doctor and a nurse, responded to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the man, but were unable to save him. The possibility of suicide has been ruled out, the prosecutor's office said, adding that efforts to identify the victim were still underway.

The exact circumstances of the fall remain unclear: investigators from the Surete publique are reviewing CCTV footage to determine whether it was an accidental fall or whether the man was trying to retrieve an object that had dropped onto the tracks. The station was evacuated during the emergency response, and train services, suspended in both directions, resumed at around 7pm.
