Cornelius Kistler got into yachting almost by accident. The Basel native was selling Delizio coffee machines when a 2006 viewing of Casino Royale, and its Sunseeker 108 Predator, pulled him toward the superyacht trade instead. Two decades later he is one of Monaco's established brokers, with a 75 million dollar sale of a 60 metre yacht standing as the largest deal of his career.

Much of that career now plays out publicly, with Kistler fronting the Disney Plus series Yacht Deals Monaco alongside yacht consultant Marcela de Kern Royer, a show built around real clients and real boats rather than scripted transactions. Off camera, the job looks less glamorous. A single mega deal can run to several hundred pages of documentation, and Kistler has had transactions stretch out for as long as seven years before closing.

That paperwork exists for a reason. Kistler has built verification into his process that he compares to banking standards, checking the source of funds before a deal goes anywhere near a signature, because buyers who cannot actually back up the money they are offering turn up far more often than most people would assume. He puts the number of fraudulent attempts he has personally caught and rejected at around five, including forged bank statements and phishing attempts aimed at extracting client information.

The screening has become as central to the job as finding the right boat for a client, Kistler says, with due diligence and compliance checks now running alongside the inspections and negotiations that used to define yacht brokering on its own. For a market built on discretion and large, fast moving sums of money, catching a fake buyer early can matter as much as closing a real sale.
