# AS Monaco Basket Set to Return to a Budget Close to Its EuroCup-Winning Season

AS Monaco Basket is set to operate next season with a sharply reduced budget after a financial crisis rattled the club over the summer. The club's budget stood at roughly 38.7 million euros during its 2025 2026 EuroLeague season, but projections for 2026 2027 now sit around six to seven million euros, close to what the club had available the year it won the EuroCup title in 2021.

The financial slide followed the club's inability to repay loans taken from Monaco's Societe Nationale de Financement before a June 30 deadline, triggering a deep restructuring. Monaco's courts postponed a review of the club's financial situation, stopping short of declaring insolvency, to give the club time to present evidence of potential new investors in negotiation.

A conciliation hearing before France's national olympic and sports committee, the CNOSF, helped bring the budget projections down from an initial target of around 12.5 million euros. The club's lawyer, Xavier Le Cerf-Galle, said its finances had been cleaned up and that five million euros in resources had already been identified.

The budget cut has come alongside the departure of several key players. Mathis Dossou-Yovo has joined ASVEL, while the situations of Yakuba Ouattara and Joel Ayayi remain unresolved. The roster the club had planned at the start of summer has gradually been dismantled, with Monaco now targeting a EuroCup campaign rather than an immediate return to the EuroLeague, entry to which could come through a new franchise system expected in 2027.
